She had a torture chamber for the slaves where she tortured them for fun which usually resulted in their death. Things like this are shown in the show and despite the fact they used her real name, not many people know this history and are able to make that connection. As has become tradition for Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's AHS franchise, many of the actors used have been seen before playing different characters. Some of the returning actors include Matt Bomer, John Carroll Lynch, Naomi Grossman and even Sarah Paulson is returning to direct an episode.

According to Captivating Houses, the property was built in 1902 by German-American architect Alfred Rosenheim. It's located near an area in Los Angeles called Billionaire Row which was home to some of California's wealthiest families. The house changed hands many times over the years and was home to actor Edward Everett Horton before the Catholic Order of Nuns moved in and it became a convent until 1994. People won't be the only familiar sight seen in American Horror Stories—the sets will be back too. In Episode 1, we will return once again to the Murder House, as seen in Season 1 and Season 8 of American Horror Story. Principal photography occurred at the Rosenheim Mansion in Country Club Park, Los Angeles, California.
Soon after the miscarriage and before the move, Ben has an affair with one of his students, which almost tears the family apart. They move into a restored mansion and soon encounter the residence's housekeeper, Moira O'Hara (Frances Conroy and Alexandra Breckenridge), as well as their neighbors—the eccentric Langdon family, consisting of Constance (Jessica Lange) and her daughter Adelaide (Jamie Brewer), who has Down Syndrome. Unfortunately, this was later undone when the witch Mallory traveled back in time to prevent the Apocalypse, thus creating a new timeline where they never took ownership of the property. At some point over the next decade, the house became the dentist office of Dr. David Curran. When a woman named Elizabeth Short arrived for an unlisted appointment, Curran used anesthesia to knock her unconscious and then proceeded to rape her, but used too much and inadvertently killed her via overdose.

Closeted detective Patrick Read (Russell Tovey) and his partner, New York Native reporter Gino Barelli (Joe Mantello) for whom Patrick left his ex, Barbara (Leslie Grossman), begin investigating the murderous homocidal duo consisting of the elusive leather-clad "Big Daddy" and twisted Dr. Whitely (Jeff Hiller). Their differing opinions on how to approach the investigation, however, leads to a rough patch in their relationship. Patrick and Gino are joined by Adam Carpenter (Charlie Carver), a young gay man whose friend has gone missing.
Patrick wasn't interested, later claiming he was about to leave Chad for his online lover. He never got the chance, though, as Tate offed them in a 2010 flashback seen in the episode "Rubber Man." He woke one morning with a plan, snorted some coke and grabbed the stash of guns under his bed.
Constance had hoped his sessions with Ben would help him come to terms with the obvious, but so far, no luck. Though horrified as Larry beats her to death in front of him, Ben lets the burned man bury Hayden in the back — right next to Moira's body. Ben then covers the growing grave with a new gazebo and pretends none of it ever happened — until Hayden's ghost returns to taunt him and Vivien.

Though the following seasons each got one, that first season only retroactively came to be known as "Murder House," after the bloody, haunted Los Angeles mansion in which it took place. On August 16, 2016, FX announced a deal had been struck to feature an American Horror Story maze at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando for their Halloween Horror Nights events. The maze featured sets and themes from Murder House, Freak Show, and Hotel. Coven's opening sequence keeps the same music, and this sequence is the first one to be filmed primarily outside and not in an enclosed location.

The current owners of the house, who purchased it for $3.2 million in 2015, sued the previous owners for not disclosing the house's connection to the AHS series. They claimed their house became a "macabre tourist attraction" and fans would often "trespass" and "attempt to break in." Not built on a Hollywood set, the Murder House is a real home in Los Angeles called Rosenheim Mansion.
When Madison and Behold buy the property for the Coven, the realtor reveals that there have been a jaw-dropping 37 deaths on the property. Though the Harmons try escaping the house throughout the season, they don't make it out before Vivien gives birth. In the aptly named episode "Birth," she goes into labor in the car as they're leaving, so Constance ushers her back inside to have her children. The power goes out, cell reception dies, and the ghostly doctor Dr. Mongtomery delivers Vivien's children by candlelight, with assists from dead nursing students Gladys and Maria. Over the course of the first season of "American Horror Story," the Harmons deal not just with moving into an unbelievably malevolent haunted house, but also an impending birth.
